A WINTER WEDDING DESTINATION IN THE ITALIAN ALPS
When Elena & Roger asked me if I was willing to document their destination wedding in the Italian Alps I was beyond thrilled. I had never photographed a winter wedding atop a mountain, which possibly meant stepping into fresh snow to take amazing couple portraits and running after the last rays of light while falling behind those amazing white peaks before the freezing cold would sink in our bones. Or perhaps none of this, just a warm,sunny and snowless winter weekend…who knew! But certainly, I would have to go prepared! As a winter wedding photographer you have to pack extra equipment, as well as bringing warm yet sleek outfits to overcome every possible scenario.
I could not be happier to take part of E&R wedding experience abroad,from the very start! From documenting my couple getting on the plane, to the fun pre wedding activities with family and guests and of course, capturing all the highlights of their special day. We developed a strong bond across these times, which contributed to create fun, heartfelt images that they will cherish forever.
Elena & Roger wanted to offer a special holiday experience for their guests and family at their destination wedding in Folgaria, a popular international winter sky holiday destination. The family of the bride is very familiar with the area, being their second home for the past 30 years. It meant the world to Elena when Roger proposed to her in that special location the previous year, so thinking to celebrate their wedding back in Folgaria was a heartfelt and natural decision!
Elena’s great organisational skills meant that her DIY wedding was planned to perfection, including managing the chairlifting of 80 guests to Rifugio Baita Tonda, a beautiful round cottage on top of the mountain dominating Serrada di Folgaria, where the wedding was meant to take place. We all had plenty of time to practice on grasping the seat as the skylift is slowing down, but doing this on your best outfit, or in my case with a backpack and cameras left and right, it added to the thrill of the day! Nevertheless, Elena and Roger’s wedding day in the Alps was like a fairytale. Elena’s hair and Make Up was trialled at Ena Salon London for the color and styling, and on the day by Monica Valduga Hair Salon. Her wedding dress was also chosen in London at David’s Bridal Watford, while her beautiful hand knitted shawl was a loving present of her auntie. Roger, our Groom, on the other hand, was the highlight of the evening, whose heartfelt speech to the Bride in Italian, melted the hearts of many family and friends. E&R wedding, filled with so much joy and romance, thanks also to the entertaining live performance of Paolo Sax Firpo, will certainly remain close to my heart for many years to come.
